The Covid19UVmask technology

                                                      The UV mask, sounds familiar, even though, it doesn't exist!

            To date, no UV mask is capable of delivering the 20 mJ/cm2 UV-C dose to the inhaled air, required to inactivate viruses and, therefore, receive FDA approval.

            Today, UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation) as a proven technology, recommended by WHO and CDC, is widely used to disinfect hospitals and homes.

          Unfortunately, currently, UVGI disinfection cannot be used in face masks, due to the low efficiency of modern technological components:

           To disinfect 500 cm3 of air per second inhaled by an adult, with the efficiency of UV-C LEDs <10%, it is required:

  • 100 W power consumption !!!, converting 90 W into heat !!!, which makes a mask unsuitable for wearing;

  • 2 kilograms batteries !!! (6 hours of battery life, 300 Wh/kg battery), making the mask too heavy to wear.

           Having a degree in optical systems and lasers, I developed  innovations (*) allowing:

  • To reduce mask energy consumption by 20 times;

  • To reduce the mask’s battery weight by 50 times.

        As a result, it became possible to make a 150-gram, 8-hour battery life, 20 mJ/cm2  guaranteed virus exposure, FDA-compliant, Covid19UVmask.

          The inventions, implementing the Covid19UVmask UVGI mask are filed at USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office), PPA No. 63/557,639, as follows:

“A METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IMPLEMENTING A UVGI FACE MASK; METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REDUCING UVGI DISINFECTION ENERGY CONSUMPTION; UVGI FACE MASK MECHANICAL DESIGN MAKES IT COMFORTABLE TO WEAR.”
